Research Degrees
In late 2009 Vose, in conjunction with Trinity Theological College, was accredited to offer ACT post-graduate research degrees, that is, degrees by thesis. This exciting development enables students the opportunity to gain the Master of Theology or Doctor of Theology degrees, and so prepare for a teaching ministry in theological institutions or the local church. The Master of Theology requires a thesis of approximately 40,000 to 50,000 words, while the doctorate requires 80-100,000 words. These theses are examined by national and international experts in the field of study, thus introducing candidates to the global community of scholars, and providing them opportunity to participate in the global theological conversation.
In January 2012 Vose will be able to offer to further higher degrees: the PhD, for those candidates who wish to engage in theological research, but whose first degrees are in fields other than theology; and the DMin, a professional doctorate for ministry practitioners who wish to specialise in an area of research with specific relation to the practice of Christian ministry.
For further information about these higher degrees by research, please contact Dr Michael O'Neil, Director Vose Research.
The Vose Conference
Vose Seminary exists to strengthen the mission and ministry of the Christian community by providing world-class education and training. The biennial Vose Conference supports this goal with thoughtful, relevant theological reflection on issues of primary importance. The inaugural Vose Conference was held in 2009 around the theme Beyond 400: Exploring Baptist Futures, as a part of global celebrations of the 400th Anniversary of the founding of the first Baptist congregation in Amsterdam in 1609. The Conference papers have been published under the same name by Wipf and Stock. Our second Vose Conference, Beyond Four Walls: An Exploration of Being the Church, featured Scot McKnight from North Park University in Chicago.
Publication
Although still a small Seminary, Vose has a substantial and growing record of publication, giving the Seminary and its faculty a voice in the global theological conversation. Publications of individual faculty may be seen on their biographical page. In addition, Vose has published four edited collections of essays: Text & Task; On Eagles' Wings; In Praise of Worship; and Beyond 400.
