Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do you only train pastors?
No. In an average year, about half of our students are studying for vocational purposes (e.g. to become a pastor, chaplain, youth worker, missionary etc.) and the other half are primarily studying to gain a deeper understanding of the Christian faith and to prepare themselves to be more effective members of a local church or service organization.
2. Is it true that theological studies weaken people's faith?
To the contrary, your time at Vose Seminary should strengthen and deepen your faith. That doesn't mean that your faith will never be challenged or that your thinking won't change. But as a result of your studies your faith should be more mature, stronger and better informed.
3. I've never been a very good student. Does the Seminary have anything to offer me? -OR-
I'm an outstanding student, does the Seminary have anything to offer me?
Students come to the Seminary with differing academic abilities. We are small enough to pay individual attention to the needs of each student, yet large enough to offer awards to meet the needs of a wide range of abilities. Thus we offer qualifications starting at the Certificate level and going on to the Postgraduate level. The Academic Dean will help you to select a programme of study suited to your goals and ability.
4. I'm not able to study fulltime...
No problem! Over half of our students are studying on a part time basis.
5. I really don't have enough money to pay fees...
Our fees are reduced by a generous subsidy from the Baptist Churches of Western Australia. If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, you can use FEE-Help - a no interest loan from the Commonwealth Government which meets the full cost of tertiary level study. (This is not available for units taken at vocational level.)
6. I can start studying now, but will be moving out of Perth before I have a chance to finish my qualification...
We are a member of the Australian College of Theology (ACT), meaning that units you pass here are recognised by all other ACT Colleges. This means it's possible to start the degree in Perth and complete it in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane or even New Zealand. Some ACT colleges also offer distance education, allowing you to study from anywhere.
