Beyond 400 Conference

From 27th - 28th August 2009 Vose Seminary had the pleasure of hosting Beyond 400: An Exploration of Baptist Futures - a conference held in celebration of the 400th anniversary of the first Baptist Church in Amsterdam. This anniversary raises questions, not only about Baptist Futures, but also about denominational distinctives in general in a postmodern world.

What an exciting week this turned out to be for the Seminary! We had well over eighty guests attending the conference over the two days as well as 12 different presenters including Rev. Dr Nigel Wright, Prinicipal of Spurgeon's College in London and Rev. Dr Martin Sutherland, Vice Principal of Laidlaw College in New Zealand. There were at times three different papers in different rooms being presented at the same time! Other speakers were Ian Packer, Edwina Murphy, Steve McAlpine, Janice Newham, Scott Higgins, Michael O'Neil, Richard Moore, Graham Hill and Peter Ralphs.

In between stimulating presentations, Nigel's famous 'waffling' and many different discussions on the Baptist Church, our guests enjoyed seemingly endless supplies of home-made slices, cookies, sandwiches and many other tasty treats. It was a great time of showcasing Vose to a wider audience.

Many thanks goes to all the Vose staff and our student volunteers for all their hard work and enthusiasm which contributed to the success of the conference. We would also like to thank the sponsors of the event who were The Australian College of Theology, Baptist World Aid and Christian Super.
